What college coaches look for in your film
The first thing a coach sees is your film. Here is what makes them keep watching — and what makes them stop.
First Eleven · October 1, 2026
Film is your first impression
A coach decides in the first minute whether to keep watching. Your film should show, quickly and clearly, why you belong on their roster.
Show these four things
- Technical — first touch, passing range, finishing under pressure.
- Tactical — decisions, positioning, and reading of the game.
- Physical — speed, endurance, and strength for your position.
- Character — how you react to mistakes and to teammates.
Practical rules
- Lead with your best 30 seconds.
- Use clips that show the ball, not just the celebration.
- Keep it short — coaches watch hundreds of these.
- Match the level of the schools you are targeting.
Where First Eleven helps
Your profile carries the film, the verified academics, and the position-specific story — so a coach sees the whole player, not just a clip.
This is information, not advice. Eligibility and financial-aid rules change. Confirm the current rules with the NCAA Eligibility Center, the school, or a financial-aid office before you act on anything here.
