The true cost of college soccer

Tuition is the headline, not the cost. How to compare schools on net cost after athletic, academic, and need-based aid.

First Eleven · October 1, 2026

Start from net cost, not tuition

Two schools can have very different headline prices and very similar real costs once aid is applied. The number that matters is the net price your family actually pays.

The three buckets of aid

  • Athletic — usually partial at most soccer programs, and not guaranteed year to year.
  • Academic merit — often the largest lever, and it does not depend on the roster.
  • Need-based — based on your family's situation, not your 40-yard dash.

Compare like for like

  • Use each school's net price calculator as a starting point.
  • Track offers side by side, including what happens in years two, three, and four.
  • Factor in the real cost of travel, gear, and time.

The takeaway

Do the math before you commit. A disciplined comparison turns a stressful decision into a clear one.

This is information, not advice. Eligibility and financial-aid rules change. Confirm the current rules with the NCAA Eligibility Center, the school, or a financial-aid office before you act on anything here.
